New Riff’s Balboa Rye is made with 95% heirloom Balboa rye, a grain that was popular back in the 1940s before largely disappearing from American fields. New Riff brought it back to the still, creating what they believe was the first whiskey made from Balboa rye in decades. Bottled-in-Bond at 100 proof and without chill filtration, it brings a different personality than your typical rye, with spiced red fruit, clove, rye bread, and layers of peppery spice. If you want to taste how much the actual grain can change a whiskey, this is a really fun one to spend some time with.
