Bobby Says:
WhistlePig has never been afraid to get weird with Boss Hog, but The Golden Pharaoh might be one of its wildest swings yet. This single-barrel, barrel-proof rye was inspired by a 3,000-year-old Egyptian tiger nut cake recipe discovered in a tomb, then finished in barrels seasoned with Egyptian black honey and tiger nuts. Ancient Egypt meets Vermont rye. Somehow, it works.
Expect molasses, toasted almond, baking spice, black pepper and dark sweetness, all sitting on top of that unmistakable spicy rye backbone. Each barrel lands around 102.6 to 105.6 proof, so there’s plenty of horsepower behind all that richness.
And because it’s Boss Hog, the presentation is completely ridiculous in the best possible way, topped with a King Tut-inspired Pharaoh pig. This is the kind of whiskey where the story sounds made up until you taste it.
A 3,000-year-old recipe, a pig Pharaoh and barrel-proof rye. Yeah, we had to pour this one.
